About Eva DeCarlo
Eva DeCarlo was born and raised in New York. Her career began in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, after having earned an undergraduate degree in ceramics and completed graduate studies at SUNY Buffalo’s Center for Media Studies under the auspices of Steina & Woody Vasulka and Nam June Paik, who as an on-going mentor became a major inspiration and support in her development as a young artist. As a member of Collaborative Projects, (Colab) her ‘nest’ series were featured in landmark exhibitions such as “The Times Square Show”, kicking off a career exploring nature in the urban environment.
Driven by talent and curiosity, she has built a career spanning fashion, public art, and a commitment to creative community projects. Highlights include:
Collaborated with among others, Robert Mapplethorpe and Joyce Tenneson on high-profile fashion and art projects
Styled the 1989 Pirelli Calendar, bringing a distinctive visual narrative to an iconic publication
Developed the concept for Karl Lagerfeld’s debut campaign for Chloé
Restored 18th-century leather boots, merging historical craftsmanship with conservation expertise
Conceived and curated The Stranger Next Door, a multimedia public art route featuring 23 international moving-image artists exploring perceptions of “the other” — from immigrants to displaced individuals — within the context of close-knit residential communities.
Curated and produced public events, including the Annual Honey Bee Festival, engaging diverse communities in creative sustainability
Led award-winning projects in curation, public garden design, and community-based art initiatives
Exhibited installation art, sculpture, and jewelry internationally since the 1980s, establishing a unique and enduring artistic presence
Eva is currently living and working in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
