Artist Residency (2022)

by Eva DeCarlo

The work presented here was made during my Artist in Residency at Coöperatie Het Domijn in Weesp, Noord Holland from May 2022 to December 2022.

Entering through a series of woven sapling archways, the images follow the nested route I created. All materials are indigenous to, or inspired by, the immediate surroundings and will eventually decompose back into the site.

Some pieces required maintenance after days of harsh rain and wind, while others survived in tact. A few disintegrated completely and I let them go. Inherent in this work is its interaction with flora and fauna. Nature plays a significant role in shaping and influencing the work, allowing it to evolve and change with the passing of seasons. My collaboration with nature brings a exciting and unpredictable character to the project. Natural growth and decay bring life and ultimately death to this work.
